Goal
To increase and ensure enforcement of tobacco control laws, regulations and policies.
The purpose of the Alameda County Tobacco Control Coalition Enforcement Task Force is as follows:
- Advise on the development of enforcement activities in the Tobacco Master Settlement Plan in Alameda County.
- Advocate for enforcement activities in the Tobacco Master Settlement Plan in Alameda County.
- Assist in maintaining on-going communication and collaboration
between local enforcement agencies, the community and the Public Health
Department.
Objectives
- Serve as a clearinghouse for educational materials and resources
for local enforcement agencies, city/county government, and businesses
in Alameda County.
- Improve Coalition awareness of local laws and compliance rates.
- Maintain a collaborative relationship with the Policy and Advocacy Committee.
- To ensure no duplication of efforts between Prop 99 and Tobacco Master Settlement Plan.
Highlights
- Worked with the staff from the city of Dublin to update their
smoking ordinance. On October 15, 2002 city council passed the smoking
ordinance that included and defined reasonable distance.
- Worked with Law enforcement agencies to reduce compliance rates for smoke free bars from 82% in 2001-02 to 94% in 2003-04.
- Worked with law enforcement agencies to perform over 1300
youth buy sting operations. Decreased sales to minor rate from 15% to 8
%.
