Currently, State of California tobacco control laws allow local cities or counties to pass ordinances that are stricter that the State's laws. In Alameda County, the cities and counties have passed a wide variety of local tobacco control ordinances, many of which were designed to protect non-smokers from exposure to secondhand smoke.
